SPIRIT: Conversations with Creative Women

In 2002 I had a dream - to create a book celebrating the many talented creative females I knew in my life. Anita Blanchett (who is featured in the book) and I had just started our creative journeys together - her as a painter, me as a photographer. Before I left for Paris I photographed her painting in her studio and said to her at the time that I wanted to produce this book.

Scan ahead 15yrs and I met Jannine Wilkinson randomly at a Christmas party where we had an instant connection and hatched a plan to make the book happen. The rest as they say is history. We spent 4 long years selecting, contacting, interviewing and photographing the artists for the book. 

We wanted creative women in New Zealand who were doing extraordinary work. Art that made you stop and think 'how and why are they doing what they do?' Women who were flying under the radar but being highly successful in their own space, and yes, making a living from their art. It also had to be stunning (yes we both bought alot of art in those 4 years!) and with as much variety in the different genre's of art as possible. 

The book includes artists such as: Flox, Phillipa Bentley, Jeanette Cervin, Fiona Hugues, Hannah Jensen, Kiri Nathan, and Sofia Minson
